Redeemed by God’s Love

by Deacon Michael Bickerstaff | January 29, 2019 12:03 am

Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings thou hast not desired, but a body hast thou prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings thou hast taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Lo, I have come to do thy will, O God,’ as it is written of me in the roll of the book.” (Hebrews 10:5-7)

The love of God for each of us is so great that He entered creation and united a human nature to His Divine Nature in order to give His life so that we might live.

The act of God becoming man, what we call the Incarnation, is so great an act of selfless love that we revere it in a special way. It is the focus of our prayer three times daily in the Angelus. We bow during the recitation of the Creed during Sunday Mass when we say the words, “and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.”

We, who are sinners, have been redeemed by our God’s loving sacrifice. Jesus, God Incarnate, freely laid down his life so that we can have life in abundance. On the Cross, Jesus merited grace so that we might live in ways pleasing to God.

Jesus has accomplished in His once-for-all sacrifice what all the sacrifices and rites of the Old Covenant could only anticipate.

We all want to belong. We all want to be accepted. We all want to be loved. Jesus loves you. When was the last time you reflected on the depth and power of His love. Say yes to His love and start the rest of your life! Be transformed by the One who made you.
