"Christ in the Desert (detail)" by Ivan Kramskoy

“Christ in the Desert (detail)” by Ivan Kramskoy

“The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to him” (Mark 1:12-13).

As we begin our Lenten observance today on Ash Wednesday, we are called to enter the desert with Christ; to turn away from sin and towards our God. Many of us realize that we are called to face difficult questions during this penitential season.  The challenge we face is not only for us to ask those questions, but to face the challenge honestly, with humility,  and a firm resolve to prayer and action. This year, pray that you are able to grasp the severity of this time and for the courage to truly embrace it. Don’t let this Lent slip by unfulfilled.

Remember, you are dust, and to dust you will return. Repent and believe in the Gospel.

Editor’s Note: Join us beginning on the First Sunday of Lent for Daily Lenten Reflections to begin each day.
