The three classical practices the Church associates with Lent are prayer, fasting and almsgiving; three things that we do. It’s important to emphasize about Lent… we can internalize it too much; interiorize it, you know, what goes on inside me. It is more a set of practices. We pray during Lent. What’s prayer? John of Damascus said “prayer is the raising of the mind and the heart to God…”
