Question: We can find examples of periods of prepration in the old and new Testaments that point to our Lenten Season, e.g., the 40 years during which the Israelites wandered in the desert before they could enter the Promised Land. Name three 40-DAY periods of preparation found in the bible that could be said to point to Lent.

  1. Ans: There are many references in Scripture to 40 days. Some more closely resembling a Lenten preparation than others. The three I had in mind are: (1) the 40 days Moses spent on Mt. Sinai in preparation to receive the Ten Commandments – Ex 34:28; (2) the 40 days when the Prophet Elijah walked to the Lord’s Mountain, Mt. Horeb- 1 Kings 19:8; and (3) the 40 days spent by Jesus in the desert preparing for his ministry – Mt 4:2.

Check back this evening for another question.
