Daily Quote from Thomas Merton

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think that I am following Your Will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing…  – Thomas Merton

  1. My favorite spiritual author. This quote is one of his best, from New Seeds of Contemplation. Although he was a contemplative and a Monk, someone we might assume did not live a life of perpetual outreach, he continually broadened his world through the very contemplation he speaks of in New Seeds of Contemplation. He embraced the suffering he often faced, because of his constant search for the truth. He suggested that the barriers that exist between men who define their lives one way, and do not accept what may be a possible truth in faith for another person, may be in Merton’s words, “A barrier between us and Jesus.” I love Thomas Merton!
